6th Annual Electronics Recycling Event

August 27, 2017

Red Lodge area residents and businesses responded by disposing of almost 19,000 pounds of electronics on August 27th, a huge success given that significant collections are still being made year after year, and that financial donations were requested from participants given costs now apply for shipping and recycling.

A special thank-you to First Interstate Bank and bank president Lyle Zimmerman for use of the parking lot.  The entry and exit, unloading of vehicles, sorting of electronics and parking a tractor trailer are efficiently handled given the great layout of the site.

Thank-you to all the volunteers including the Red Lodge Lions Club, the Red Lodge High School Green Team, and individuals to include Bill Zander, Scott Bowser, Michael Sczutkowski and others who worked the whole day.  Markus Urbanik and Michael Furgeson from Beartooth Electric Cooperative who operated the forklift and displayed outstanding skills in loading electronics onto the tractor trailer.  Sue Foisy, Melissa Larson and Polly Richter for collecting donations from those dropping electronics from their vehicles.

And Tom Hogye, ECS Refining, Stockton California, for organizing the shipping and recycling of electronics.

Almost 19,000 pounds of electronics was collected during the pre-event pickup and the day of the event and shipped to ECS Refining.  Over 40% of the poundage was CRT (old cathode ray televisions and computer monitors) devices that are difficult to recycle responsibly in the state of Montana.
